こちらで曲を聴くことができるが、こちらはクリスマスの衣装。
こちらの方が画質はいい
メロディーはわかりや
すく、ポップスのお手本のような、フレッシュさ
もあわせ持っている。
何気ないポップな
サウンドの合間に聴こえるバッキングに耳を傾ければ、パーカッションが、3連のノリでリズムを刻むという、かなり渋いことをやっている。
コーラスの厚み
で、軽くなりがちなポップサウンドにさりげない重厚さを保たせているそのサウンドは、日本の同じような年代の歌手のアルバムでは聴くことのできない世界だ。
一曲を通して若者らしい素直なテイストを醸し出し、サビがメロディーに負けない「
心に残る」メロディーラインを持ちあわせているため、一度聴けば忘れられない曲として、心に残るのだろう。
同じメロディーラインが繰り返されると変化がなくなりがちになるわけだが、メロディーのバッキングのリズムを一瞬止める
、などとというアレンジが施されている。だが一度しかやらない「さりげなさ」がお洒落。
バッキングでもテーマのメロディーが繰り返されるが、ストリングスが奏でるリフはシンプルで美しい。
しかも歌を邪魔することがないよう、注意深く使われているのを聴くにつれ、このアルバムにチカラのあるアレンジャーが参加している
ことがわかる。

エイミー・グラントは、素朴で飾らない表現が魅力だ。
カントリー畑出身だが、この曲を聴いている限り、そうした匂いは全く感じられない。
声の素朴な出し方と落ち着いた声の質感は、そうした「出身」によるところなのだろう。
Amy の歌の「丁寧さ」は、歌そのものに、ある種の説得力を与えている。
そして彼女の歌はとても上品なテイストを持っている。
このあたりが、カントリー畑のファンだけではなく、誰からも好かれる理由なのだろう。
このエレガントな上品さは、残念ながら日本の歌手からは感じることができない類のものなのだが、
声質とエレガントさの組み合わせが、歌を実に魅力的なものにしている。
それでいて、さらっとした風合いで歌われているのは、長いキャリアと実力に裏打ちされているからだろう。
よく聴くと、この曲は実はドラムやベースなしで演奏されている。
彼女の歌の世界に引き込まれていると、そうしたことに全く気がつかなかったのだ。
バックで彩を添えるオーケストラのサウンドがまた甘美。
ラストは、アメリカの郊外の田舎にある牧場の上に広がる澄み切った星空の下で、いっとき夢見心地にさせてくれるよう
な世界を醸し出している。
そして寒さで瞬く星空のように、余韻を残しながらで消えて行く・・

High
イントロのピアノこそ「しっとり」と始まるが、聞き惚れていると、ドラムのオカズが左右に振られ、いきなり斬り込んでくる。
アップテンポに乗ったWill
Leeの切れのいいベースに乗って、バネッサが生きいきと歌いあげる。
バスドラムの音が、またいい。
よいオーディオをお持ちなら、録音のよさも楽しめるだろう。
ミュートされたかのようなベースは、低くワイドレンジ、地を這うようにサウンドを支えているが、これはシンセベースだから出せるサウンドだ。
しかもドラムのスネアのカンカンという高めのチューニング
は、低いベースサウンドのスパイスとして、よく利いている。
エフェクトのかかったギターのカッティングが、こういうサウンドでもって絡まれちゃあ、たまりません。
途中でスキャットと合わせたジョージベンソン風ギターソロも登場するが、この部分のコーラスとしてのバッキングのアレンジもなかなか新鮮だ。
ベースのランニングフレーズもカッコいいぞ。
途中で聴いたことのあるフレーズも登場。
クリスマスソング集で、こうした創造的なユーモアのセンスで織りなすアレンジから、このアルバムに掛けるスタッフの情熱を、垣間見ることができる。

Baby Face - It came upon a

生ギターの奏でる伴奏から始まりベビー・フェイスの特徴のある歌声が、脳裏に焼き付くように、染み込んでくる。
とにかく彼のノドが非常に柔らかいことが、その歌の肌触りから感じとることができるだろう。
黒人なのに、さらっとした肌合いの歌声の知的な感触が、聴く者を惑わせる。
途中の転調でいきなり、リズムセクションが入ってくるが、「これってあり？」というアレンジのセンスは鳥肌もの。
しかも、めまぐるしい転調の繰り返しは、聴く者の予想を裏切った直後に、思わぬ角度から切り込んでくるから堪らない。
そして、エレピの音はあくまでもリリカル。
ベースのサウンドは豊かでワイドレンジ。
女性的とさえ思えるファルセットボイスの繊細な感触とあいまって、彼の歌の独特な肌合いにより、歌の魅力は磨かれ、独特の輝きを放っている。
彼自身が類まれなアレンジャーのため、アルバムとしても統一感を伴った一級品として仕立て上げられている。
眩暈を起こすかのような転調に翻弄されていると、クリスマスソングだということ

ラグタイム風のピアノといい、よく知らないけどたぶんアメリカ南部の香り

と（多分ドラマー）が返事をすると、そのあと、ドドドドとドラムが入ってゆくのだけれど、カッコよすぎるぞ。
でこうしたあとでさえ、また転調するんだなあ・・年季の入った意表の突き方には参りました。

ミディアムスローなブラシによるリズムに乗って、繰り広げられるドライなタッチのダイアナの歌は、淡々とした表現でとてもよくマッチしている。
ちょっと凝ったホーンを中心としたアレンジのオーケストレーションが、彼女独特の世界を創りあげる大きな要素になっている。
あまり有名ではない曲だが、しっとりと落ちた美しい佳曲だ。

生ギターのバッキングが印象的
で、彼女出身のカントリーの雰囲気が少し漂ってくるようなイントロだ。
サビのメロディーはドラマチック
。
そのため自作でありながら楽曲としての魅力は十分に備わているうえ、リリカルなテイストが少し含まれているため、それが何とも言えない魅力となっている。
カントリーフレーバーに加え、バックコーラスもしっかりとサウンドをサポートしているが、バッキングではギターの魅力も十分に伝わってくる。
繰り返されるピアノのリフがちょっとドラマチックな雰囲気を醸し出している。
彼女の歌声は、クリスマスを象徴するような歌詞とともに、初めて聴く人にも沁みわたるように響くはず。

クリス・ボッティーの、トランペットがクールに響き、やがてストリングスと絡み合う。
中程で、少しメロディーを、ほんの一切れだけ崩す。
アドリブソロは、生ギターでさりげなく展開されるが、少しコードを変えたハーモニーのもとでストリングスが、バックをつづれ織り、再びトランペットのソロへと戻るというシンプルな構成だ。
アドリブこそないけれど、メロディーの崩し方で、彼の実力の片鱗がうかがい知れるプレイだ。
少しもの悲しい、哀愁を帯びたサウンドは、クリスマスの酔いを一瞬の間、鎮めてくれるかのようだ。

ミディアムスローで、ベビーフェイスの歌が始まり、２コーラス目からはコーラスが加わる。
タンバリンとスネアのリムショットの音の重ね方とか、メロディーラインとコーラスとのバランスとか生ギターのソロの出し方などを聞くと、この曲をどのように聞かせているのか
？といった仕掛けがわかってくるだろう。
パッと聞くと、何の変哲もない曲のように聞こえるが、低域からの厚く分厚いコーラスが、バックのサウンドをしっかりとサポートしている。
そして高音のストリングスとの対比がまた素晴らしい。
アレンジを勉強したことがある人なら、この曲は何倍も楽しめるはず。

でその人気振りが伺える Warren Hill。
シンプルなリズムで珍しい曲に挑戦しているが、淡々とメロディを吹いた後の、ピアノもシンプルなメロディーから始まるが、後半のタメのあるフレーズを聞けば、只者ではないことがわかる
。
で、その後は Warren
Hill ソロが展開されるが、バックの掛け声がいかしてる。
実にシンプルでファンキーな演奏だ。
ここまでシンプルにして聴かせる手腕は並大抵のものではない。
わざとたどたどしい、弾き方をするピアノも、なかなかどうして、只者ではない。
あまりにも短く感じるから、もっと聴きたくなってしまう。

パーカッションとフェンダーローズのリフで軽快に始まるイキのいいイントロに、ジェラルド・オルブライトのサックスが絡み、テーマが展開されるが、こういうレベルの高いフュージョンは、ホント心地よい。
8ビートに乗り適度にポップで、それでいて適度にビパップしているこの楽しさは、どうだろう。
メロディーに続き、アルトサックスとソプラノサックスで次々と繰り出されるアドリブソロは、ジャズ好きには堪らない魅力だ。
メロディーの崩し方を聴くだけで、その後のアドリブソロのの素晴らしさが窺い知れる。
高い音域の咽び泣きがセクシー！
この曲の印象的なテーマは、ホーンのハーモニーで繰り返されるが、アドリブとのバランスが見事。
途中の転調といい、アレンジャーの「作り」の上手さに脱帽。
もっとソロを聞きたくなる長さで終わってしまうのが、また憎い。

バネッサ・ウイリアムスが丁寧に謳いあげるスローバラード。
イントロのソプラノサックスに続き、歌のうまさとか、そういったことを気にさせない次元での、彼女の世界が繰り広げられている。
パっと聞くとごく普通に聞こえるのだが、よく聞くと、声の芯が太く厚いことがわかるだろう。
黒人ならではの柔らかな声で、ストレートに奇をてらわずに歌っている。
彼女の歌を聞いていると、天は時々、気まぐれにニ物を与えるのだなあと思う。
ああ、人生は時に不公平！

によるソプラノサックスのソロがいい。
ケニーＧ とは、違った持ち味で楽しませてくれる。
少し抑揚を押さえ気味のプレイは、この曲と彼女の歌の魅力を一層際立たせているようだ。
こういうプレーヤーが存在するという層の厚さが、アメリカ音楽の魅力ではないだろうか。

ドラムのスネアがカーンという響きの高めのチューニング。
このサウンド・・一瞬誰かと思うが、何とグロリア・エステファン。
この人のクセが実にこの曲とよく合っているのだ。
かといって、あまりラテンという感じはしないのがまたいい。
高いところの少し苦しそう
で、それでいて切なそうな響きが素敵だ。
バックコーラスもそつなくきちんと仕事をしている。
エレキギターのソロは、泣き気味のプレイ。
後半から子供たちのコーラスが入り、そしてグロリアのアドリブっぽいフレーズが絡んでゆく・・

決して有名な曲ではないけれど、しみじみとしたクリスマスの情景を、彼女独特のやさしさにくるんで歌いあげている。
こういう隠れた名曲？をアルバムの最初に持ってくるというセンスが、素敵だ。
弦のアレンジは、Patrick
Williams。
バッキングの演奏は、比較的シンプルにまとめられ、歌を引き立てるよう
に少し押さえたアレンジが施されている。
エイミーはクリスマスアルバムを３枚リリースしているのだが、このアルバムには、いわゆる有名な曲は入っていないけれど、素晴らしい佳曲ばかり。
そういうテイストを探している方にはぴったりのアルバム
ではないだろうか。

ホーンセクションの魅力が満載の一曲。途中のブリッジがシカゴだあーー！
嬉しいなあ。ここまでやってくれると。
ホーンに隠れたハモンドのＢ３風のレズリー早回しの合いの手の、パーカッションのようなバッキングサウンドが懐かしくそして暖かい。
ドラムのスネアの音が、いかにもロックらしく、ワイルドに雰囲気を盛り上げてくれる。
ギターのカッティングも、あの時代を彷彿とさせてくれるサウンドに彩りを添えている。
サビから登場する何気ない普通のタンバリンがとても効果的。
途中のホーンの展開は、まさにシカゴ全盛期の「あのノリ」が再現されている。
スネアのカーンという響きも、バックとよく合っている。
いやあ、さっぱりしたなあ。

ＷＯＯ！という叫び声から始まるが、育ちの良さを感じさせるフレーバーにノリのよさ
が加わるクリスマスの楽しい気分を、大幅にアップしてくれる曲だ。
彼の持つ声の太さと柔らかさに加え、アレンジも超一流ときている。
ファルセットと生声の連携が堪らない魅力だ。

途中で４ビート寄りのリズムに乗ってピアノソロが入り、歌へと繋がれてゆく。
ストリングスなしで、ドラムも軽いミディアムテンポでノリを重視したアレンジが施されている。
ストリングスはちょっと控えめ。
ベースの二泊三連気味のフレーズも乱入し、そこでは16分の速いフレーズもちりばめられている。
しかしこのサウンドのゴージャスさはどうだろう。
高品質なオーディオシステムをお持ちの方は、音の素晴らしさでも圧倒されるはず。

このアーティストは日本人。
デイブ・グルーシンのＧＲＰレーベルからリリースされている。
琴の音を生かしたすばらしいアレンジだ。
間奏も琴！ だが素晴らしいのは、妙な異国情緒風にならずに、クリスマスの雰囲気をとてもよく出しているという点だ。
歌もちょっと投げやり風なんだけれど、ストレートというかバランスが絶妙で、日本人だとか何人だとかとか、そういうことを考えさせないサウンドは見事。
よく聴くと琴の音が結構入っているのだが、シンセとうまく溶け合って、あまり気にならない。
こういう手があるんだなあ。
この歌手、ほとんどの日本人は知らないだろう。
